Ideally what I want is a vendor who is willing
to invest in the partnership upfront. Higher education is a little different than corporate
America in that we tend to be very resource constrained. It’s the nature of non-profit
its the nature of higher education, shared governance, that means that we can’t afford
to do a lot of expensive experimentation. We have to get it right the first time and because
of that what I want is to make sure that we get it right for the first time. I can tell
you about an experience that I just recently had with Blackboard. In the course of making
some decisions about building out enhancements to our warehouse I realized that we didn’t have a solid sense
of what we were trying to do. So I asked Blackboard to come in and work with me to conduct a discovery
exercise that resulted in an output that completely clarified the goals, the deliverables the
expectations for the project that we’re undertaking with you on go forward basis. We’re getting to launch
that within the next couple of weeks. I’m very excited to know that I can I have a very
clear picture of what the end results are going to be before I actually start the work
and I think that coming to that place with Blackboard is the kind of thing that I’m going
to be looking more and more for in my vendor partnerships as I go forward.
