Hi and welcome back to Fly TV Squeeze.
I am Niklaus Bauer. We are back on Gotland. Fishing with my two good friends,
Per and Robert. They are guides at
Fish Your Dream. Per, what do you think of the conditions?
– I think we have good trout conditions. We have some movement in the water
and we have some dark skies. I think that the fish is moving
quite close to the shore. Is this an area where
fish can spawn, any creeks or so? Yes, we have a few creeks,
not too far away. There could be some kelts here as well?
– Yes, kelts and brown ones. Let’s go! My name is Per Jobs
and I am the owner of Fish Your Dream. We have a local business on Gotland in
angling with guiding and accommodation. We have a shop too. We also have a business in Swedish Lapland,
the fishing lodge Tjuonajokk. We originally started the company here on
Gotland for the sea trout fishing in 2006. We have good chances
for wild sea trout here. They are good sized too, normally.
We will see what we can do this windy day. As always when we fish for
sea trout or sea run browns- -it is very important
to make a loop knot. If it is heavily weighted,
it can dive down really quick. Yeah! Good one! We will come back to my fly later.
– Well done, Per! It was a good sized fish. You can clearly see
it is a coloured fish now. You can see the fins,
the brown colour. It has some power.
As you can see. Here it comes.
– Decent size. I want to measure this one. About 2 feet.
I am going to hand this darling to you. This is a typical Gotland trout,
it still has its apidose fin. We are ready to release this guy. It is important to move it a bit back
and forth to get some oxygen through it. Nice job, man! Good job. My fly looks well.
– It looks good to the fish too. Today when we have these windy conditions,
the west side is not as windy as the east- -but we will show you some tricks
to make it easier to cast. You can actually use
the wind in your favour. You need to change your casting a bit,
as Robert is going to show you now. In a normal back cast
you stop the rod pretty high. As you see Robert doing
at the moment. The problem is that the wind
from the back will just kill the loop. You are not able to push the line
through the wind. Lower your rod instead
and increase the line speed a lot. Push the line under the wind. Then increase the speed,
also increase the double haul. Then shoot the line. Then you can get the line… Nice one.
You can get the line under the wind. Push the line through the wind,
and cast despite the wind from the back. It is just a small trick,
but it is easy when you start to learn it. That is a nice one.
– Nice fish! See how long it is? Probably about 1 foot 9 inches.
Great condition! It is a little bit later
in the evening now. I lost a fish and I had a few strikes. This one took really hard the first time,
then I speeded up the Magic Head- -and made a stop, and it just hammered it.
It is a little silvery one. He was not ready. Subtitles: Daniella Falkman Twedmark
