How to Make Fried Catfish : How to Cut Catfish Fillets


Hi my name is Karl James owner of Creolesoul
catering located in Round Rock, Texas and on behalf of Expert Village I’m here to show
you a fried catfish recipe. Okay here we have our catfish fillets like I said if you wanted
you can use the whole catfish, you can cook it whole or you can cut the whole catfish
up, you can what I like to do is take the whole catfish and I make slits down right
down on both sides of the back bone and I like to fry it whole like that. But for the
fillets we are just going to basically cut those in half (cutting)and get those ready
for cooking. Anyways so here we have our catfish fillets we cut them in half, no bones for
those people who don’t like bones or get very nervous when they come across a bone in the
fish. So here we have our fillets cut in half and let’s move on with the rest of our recipe.

  1. I prefer to trim all the red or yellow off the fillets. Then cut into finger width pieces. They fry up nicely this way.

  2. one would not cut a fillet migon in half and then cook it, because that fat part of the meat is where the flavor is, leave the suckers whole and get some zatarans louisiana fish fry, thats the ticket, simple as that, batter them up, make sure you got some fresh lemon to squirt on the fish after the frying and get the oil nice and hot before dumping them in,
