Korean Grilled Eel

Korean Grilled Eel

It’s time for Food Adventure Program For Awesome People! The Electric edition The Electric Edition? Because we’re eating eels today and eels are electric. Are all eels electric though or they are specific electric eels? Does anybody know the answer? Simon does not have an answer for once in his life uh no.. all eels are electric are you sure what’s your percentage on that? My percentage is don’t get hit by car I’m good so we are all the way here in Yeosu, we drove for 5 hours to have some awesome food the seafood in Yeosu is absolutely phenomenal and this place we’re here is highly highly recommended Yeosu is pretty much like a port city, so we’re like having fresh from the water placed on the table Grilled. Delicious eels there’s 3 different kind we’ll talk about it when we get inside Let’s eat some eels That is pretty simple as you can see we pretty much have which tang means soup and you got the… 소금sogeum is salt and 구이gu-i is grilled and then you got the… and they say in English it is marinated eel but they don’t say tell you it’s marinated so it’s spicy and a little bit sweet 양념yangnyeom is usually like the stuff they put on the chicken as well so we are going for 2 orders of these each cause I don’t really want just plain boiled yeah but that’s not why we’re here, right people? there’s something I gotta mention about grilling anything in Korea is the differences between the grilled so these ones actually got charcoal. It’s a word that I can’t say, so don’t judge me In Korean it’s like a 숯 (such)
and it actually adds a flavour almost like a smokey charred grilled flavour of things even if you eat samgyeopsal with this, it tastes much much better this is what you’ll need for grilled fish. It’s awesome and now for some sexy food porn shots I haven’t had eel for 4 years. I’m ready for this Oh man Oh I never taste an eel like this before this is lovely Oh man my school back then I was teaching I remember one day I called it sick because I had food poisoning and then when I came back, they were like “Did you eat eel?” “Is that why you got food poisoning?” I said no and they were like don’t eat any eels because foreigners’ stomach can’t handle eels I have no idea why they said that. I’m not sure I’m gonna get sick but for some reason I had it planted in my mind That foreigners can’t eat eels you know why, there’s so much eels in supply for korean. [Simon] Yes [Martina] is it really hot [Simon] no Oh it’s hot. You lied to me [Simon] was it? mmm really light flavour you know what it reminds me of? [Simon] What? Fish and Chips in America [Simon] Oh yeah [Simon] Like a haddock [Martina] It has a really light fish flavour. That’s what this has kay I’m gonna try the 양념yangnyeom one this is the same eel except covered with the 양념yangnyeom sauce which is usually you see on fried chicken cutest word on the planet 양념yangnyeom Originally the ajumma at the restaurant said that she like the salt one better because this one just kinda taste like the sauce so what’s your opinion on it? [Simon] I think the ajumma was right you still taste the fish but this has like a saucy flavour to it as well you know I didn’t realise how light the flavour the fish was so it really is overpowered now it’s my turn to try it [Simon] Go for it the only downside to really fresh grilled food in Korea is it’s always scalding hot you know when we go for… [Simon] That was really good mmm [Martina] Let’s try it again I’m trying to help you [Martina] yeah the salted one is better [Simon] yeah it’s so good it’s not like a really strong 양념yangnyeom flavour but the salted one add a little bit better to the flavour mmm but once you tried the original you feel like there’s no need to add an extra sauce that’s it for this week’s Food Adventure for Awesome People Every time I go to these restaurants, I’m dead tired afterwards from the warm and delicious food in my belly we’ve been on this road trip, we have some of the best food we had in forever I just want to travel non-stop and eat all your great food I think it’s really cool to go to the port cities because we’re getting some of the freshest seafood we had and you always say like oh Seoul has everything but you know what I’m starting to realize that Seoul does not have everything

  1. I watch all of these FAPFAP's in the middle of the night making me starving. 😰 I am a glutton for torturing myself it seems

  2. So true about getting sick eating eel. I had teriyaki eel at a restaurant in Vancouver ( somewhere down Robson st.) And I got violently sick -_- … But it tasted amazing.

  3. If anybody's interested I have a theory on why eels would be hard to digest:
Eels are scavengers and live in shallow waters or near the bodem. Because of that a lot built up of toxins occurs over an eels live, especially of fat-soluble toxins as eels have quite a high fat content(which of course is also why they are so delicious and melt-in-mouth). Same with catfish.
This does not apply to farmed eel of course.

Not sure if this is the reason but it could very well be, I know there was a lot of concern over it a couple of years back.

  4. I am not a comments reader. Sorry if I repeat other commenters. Electric eels are not electric or even eels. Martina was also not going to get hit by a car. But Simon and Martina are super smart. Together, they delve further than a single smart person would. So, if Simon thinks electric eels are electric and actually eels, Martina will question him and send their combined knowledge into a state of questioning (and being able to find the answers = thanks, Internet content publishers!) rather than believing a false fact (possibly grasped onto since childhood?). Well, boredom kingdom = is it really boredom? Is it even a kingdom?

  5. Hi. I also want to try grilled eel. I've a question though -are eels bony?.. Or you could just eat it with the bones and all?…

  6. Not sure if I heard right but I think she said Yan yam which where I live is like picky put you dip the biscuit in the cream and then I heard chicken so now I'm thinking of chicken flavored Yan yam

  7. Technically all fish are ever so slightly electric, that's what helps them swim in shoals like they do. BUT most aren't electric enough for humans to notice.

  9. Guys 양념(yang-nyum) literally means sauce or seasoning. Its a broad term and not a specific blend. You would call salt, pepper, mustard or pretty much any other seasoning 양념.

  10. están muy bien los videos, solo que en mi opinión sería bueno que buena parte del video saliera más la comida y no ustedes comiendo. saludos desde México

  11. Old video but yangnyum basically means sauce. Everytime the word comes up they say it's the same stuff as the stuff on fried chicken but chicken yangnyum and eel yangnyum are completely different.

  12. I don't think I ever said this. This is the first video I saw of EYK that got me to smash that subscribe button.

  13. Never been a fan of the " free " food they give you at Korean restaurants. Most of the time, they just sits uneaten, such a waste.

  14. Vocês são muito cut cut. Amo ver vocês comendo. Desfrutando juntos. Isso tambêm deveria ser possível no Afree tv. Assim, Talvez as pessoas percebessem como é bom partilhar o prazer de estar na mesa.Muito obrigada👍

  15. I think the saucy one is better for the people who aren't fans of the flavor of the eel or any fishy flavors. I want to try it all.

  16. It’s cute to know that even four years later, Martina is still doing that window wiper wall/blocking motion to keep Simon from eating her food. 😊 Love you guys.
