Little Fish skims over steps for making comics

You start with your story, as you would imagine, much like in a movie script. So after you’ve got the script then you figure out what you’re going to draw. Take the ideas in your mind and then you start to rough them out. The next step is called penciling and that’s the actual pencil drawing, what people think of as the drawing stage. The stage after that is generally inking which is going over the pencil lines,
cleaning them up, finishing them. Usually the inker, if they’re good, has their own kind of personality that they bring to things. You will always get the inker’s version of the pager, so it behooves any book to have a good inker. The other two steps: lettering and coloring. Lettering is literally adding he speech bubbles, all the words, to the comic book. All the coloring is done on computers and you get… computer coloring is at a point where it’s almost, I think, more impactful than the inking. You get such an opinion from a good colorist, and a good colorist can make a book sing.
